Klotz Leads Crushers to Victory in Series Finale

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, finished off their series against the Schaumburg Boomers with a 4-2 win on Thursday night. The Crushers (32-36) evened the season series at three games apiece ending the Boomers’ (46-22) five-game winning streak. The Crushers jumped out to a four-run lead in the fifth. After Austin O’Brien singled to lead off the frame, Brandon Murray crushed a home run down the right-field line to give Lake Erie a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Parker Norris singled up the middle to put another runner aboard, and Connor Oliver followed up with the second two-run dinger to right, giving the Crushers a 4-0 advantage. The Boomers refused to go quietly in the ninth. John Holland drew a one-out walk, and a double from Sean Godfrey put two in scoring position. In the next at bat, Nick Oddo bounced a ball to first to break the shutout, putting two away. After Jack Parenty drew a walk, Ryan O’Malley made things interesting with an RBI single that put the tying run on base.
