Sauget, Ill. – Corey Kimes tossed six scoreless innings to pick up his first win in a Grizzlies’ uniform on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark, as Gateway cruised to a 7-2 win over the Normal CornBelters. Kimes (1-0) struck out seven batters in his performance while allowing just two hits. The Grizzlies’ offense struck early and often against Normal RHP Chris Carmain (0-2) in the first three innings. In the first, Craig Massoni doubled with two outs which was followed by Brandon Thomas‘ RBI single. In the second,Sam Fischer ripped his second homer of the year over the right field fence to make it 2-0. The Grizzlies (6-5) broke things open in the third. Cody Livesay started the frame with a single and Logan Davisfollowed it up with a single of his own. After a double steal, Massoni plated a run with a sac fly. Vin Guglietti then stepped in with two runners on-base and laced a two-RBI double into the right-centerfield gap. Guglietti’s hit put Gateway ahead 5-0.
