Southern Illinois shuts out Gateway to clinch series, has won five of their last six games The Southern Illinois Miners recorded their fourth consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon at GCS Ballpark in Sauget behind stellar starting pitching by Josh Kimborowicz and a homer and a triple by Nolan Earley, blanking the Gateway Grizzlies 4-0 to clinch the series. Kimborowicz ran into trouble early as the Grizzlies got the game’s first run into scoring position in each of the first two innings. But the right-hander would use his defense to get out of the jams, inducing two inning-ending double plays to keep the game scoreless. In the third inning, the Miners broke out on top with three runs. With men at first and second and two outs, Craig Massey popped a ball up toward second baseman Steve Pascual. Pascual was called off by the shortstop Logan Davis, who ended up dropping the baseball, allowing one run to score to make it 1-0. Earley came up and three pitches later lined a triple to deep right-center field, making the score 3-0 after three innings.
