GRIZZLIES UTILITY MAN ERIC JONES SIGNS WITH MARINERS

SAUGET, Ill.. – Gateway utility man Eric Jones didn’t need much time in Sauget to catch the attention of the bigs, as today the Grizzlies announce the Davidson College alum has signed with the Seattle Mariners. By putting pen to paper, Jones became the first Grizzlies player to sign with an MLB organization in 2021. Jones made the most of his 10 games with Gateway, leaving the squad with a team-best .308 batting average and a pair of homers. He also played a whole host of positions defensively, including first base, third base and both corner outfield spots. This marks Jones’ second journey into affiliated ball. The Charlotte native had previously signed with the Minnesota Twins as an undrafted free agent in 2019, playing in just five games for the team’s Gulf Coast League affiliate before being released.
