FLORENCE, Ky. — The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, rode a second straight superb starting pitching performance, bolstered by a season-best offensive outburst, to a 11-3 win over the River City Rascals on Wednesday night at UC Health Stadium. Cody Gray (7-1) earned his league-leading seventh win of the season by holding the Rascals (20-22) to three runs on seven hits over eight strong innings. The right-hander matched his season-high of seven strikeouts and benefited from the best run support any Freedom (29-12) pitcher had received all season. For the second time in as many nights, Florence got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning when a pair of walks to Daniel Fraga and Taylor Oldham set up a double steal and an RBI-groundout by Andre Mercurio, putting Florence on top 1-0. The Freedom added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning, when Taylor Oldham launched a solo home run, his second of the year, off Rascals starter Hector Hernandez (3-5).
