Gateway’s Santos and River City’s Ortiz Win Player and Pitcher of the Week

Gateway Grizzlies Trae Santos and River City Rascals Jonny Ortiz were named Frontier League Players and Pitcher of the Week, respectively as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. Trae Santos earned his honor this week by posting a .500 batting average while hitting four homeruns and driving in nine. Santos hit safely in five of six games helping the Grizzlies to a 3-3 record over that stretch. Gateway currently sits 4.5 games back of the West Division lead early in the season. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Santos spent the 2016 season as a member of the San Diego Padres organization where he split time between High A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio. The Barrigada, Guam native and Troy University alum was drafted in the 17th round by San Diego in 2013. Santos posts a .230 career batting average in 1,408 plate appearances while also hitting 32 home runs and driving in 155.
