The Southern Illinois Miners are proud to announce that 2016 Frontier League Rookie of the Year and batting champion Shane Kennedy has been picked up by the Minnesota Twins. He becomes the 46th former Miner to sign with a major league organization and the second in 2016. “Shane had an extraordinary season for us,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “The fact that he was not only the Rookie of the Year but the batting champion for the league as well says all that is needed to be said about his abilities. His daily hard work and game effort to go with strong skills could take him a long way in the Twins system. He is still young, and can grow within their organization. This is a tremendous opportunity for him and our entire staff wishes him great success.” Kennedy set the league on fire down the stretch this past season, setting a new team record with an incredible .363 batting average while becoming the first Miners player to finish with the best such mark in the Frontier League.
