Florence Walks Off Washington in 10 Innings

FLORENCE, Ky –On Independence Day, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, stormed back from a pair of five and four-run deficits to take the mid-week series with the Washington Wild Things in walk-off fashion on Wednesday, emerging 9-8, in ten innings at UC Health Stadium. After Jimmy Heck singled and Keivan Berges doubled to begin the bottom of the tenth, the Wild Things (27-20) elected to walk Jacob Wark to load the bases with nobody out. With the infield drawn in, Jordan Brower roped a sharp single off Washington closer, Zach Strecker (3-2) that ate up Brett Marr at short, scoring Heck and giving the Freedom (23-23) the walk-off, 9-8, victory. Having to pitch around back-to-back singles to start the top of the tenth, Florence closer Johnathon Tripp (3-0) erased the jam and picked up a pair of strikeouts on the way to the win in relief. Florence took the first lead of the game in their first at-bat, thanks to a double to the gap in right-center off the bat of Caleb Lopes before Marr threw errantly into the stands on a Skylar Ewing grounder, allowing Lopes to cross home-plate as the Freedom took an early, 1-0, lead.
