Florence Tops River City To Take Series

FLORENCE, Ky – Looking to make it two wins in a row over a West Division rival, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, scored in five different innings on the way to securing the mid-week series with a, 12-7 victory over the River City Rascals, moving into second place on Wednesday night at UC Health Stadium. In a pitching match-up of lefty relievers-turned-starters, Florence (38-36) was able to strike first against River City (38-37) hurler Jonny Ortiz (5-2). In the bottom of the first inning, Austin Wobrock worked a four-pitch lead-off walk, before going first-to-third on a Caleb Lopes single to center. Skyler Ewing then grounded into a double play, allowing Wobrock to score as the Freedom took a, 1-0, lead. In the top of the third, River City tied it up off southpaw, Mike Castellani, thanks to a the first home run of the season for Trevor Achenbach, a solo-shot that evened the score at one run apiece. Florence would respond, however striking for five runs in their next at-bat. Wobrock tripled to start the frame, and watched Lopes walk behind him. Ewing then rolled a sharp ground-ball to second scoring Wobrock, but would reach second base as Clint Freeman failed to catch the ball at first base. With runners now at second…
