Dubsky, Miners Shut Out Rascals In Season Finale

MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners took an early lead on Sunday against the River City Rascals at CarShield Field, and led throughout the game as Austin Dubsky took a no-hitter into the eighth inning to lead the team to a 2-0 win in their final game of the 2017 season. In the first inning, Craig Massey, playing in his final game in a Miners uniform, led off the game with a single off Nick Kennedy (0-3), and moved to second base on a single by Romeo Cortina. After a double-play grounder moved Massey to third base, Ryan Lashley, also playing in his final game with Southern Illinois, singled up the middle to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Miners got another run in similar fashion, as Massey and Cortina singled back-to-back with two outs before Nolan Earley scored Massey with a single into right field for a 2-0 Miners lead. Dubsky (3-1), meanwhile, was dominating on the mound, allowing just one baserunner (a walk to Braxton Martinez leading off the second inning) in his first six innings pitched and retiring 15 batters in a row between the second and sixth frames.
