JOLIET, Ill. – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, ended a four-game skid with an 8-6 victory over the Joliet Slammers on Sunday afternnon. The Crushers (8-13) set season highs for hits (12) and runs in an inning (7) while the Slammers (8-13) fell to the Crushers for the first time at home this season. The Slammers drew first blood with a run in the second. Danny Zardon led off with a double, moving to third on a wild pitch. Melvin Rodriguez followed up with a high chopper to second to score Zardon for the 1-0 advantage. Joliet extended their advantage in the third. With two outs, Edwin Gomez and Rock Shoulders connected for back-to-back singles, and Zardon launched a homer to right field for a 4-0 Slammers lead. The Crushers answered with a season-high seven runs in the top of the fourth. Connor Hofmann sparked the rally with a one-out single, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Josh McAdams followed with another single to put runners on the corner, and a third consecutive single from Parker Norris plated Hoffman and left runners on the corners.
