Crushers Oust Wild Things in Rubber Match

WASHINGTON, PA – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, edged out the Washington Wild Things, 3-2, in their series finale on Sunday evening. The Crushers (34-37) won their first series over the Wild Things (39-32) in 2017. The Wild Things opened the scoring in the second. Hector Roa led off with a single, and a walk to Mike Hill put runners on first and second. After Kyle Pollock bounced into a fielder’s choice that put out Roa at third, the Crushers failed to turn a double play on a groundball to first that brought in Hill for a 1-0 lead. Lake Erie responded quickly in the third. Brandon Murray launched a home run to right in the first at bat of the inning to even the score, and the Crushers rode that momentum into the fourth. Connor Oliver led off the fourth with a single, and after Sean Hurley struck out, Cody Lenahan and Conner Simonetti connected for back-to-back singles to score Oliver and put Lake Erie on top, 2-1. As the Crushers did in the third, the Wild Things responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth. Roa led off the frame with a moonshot to left field…
