Chris Smith becomes the 31st former Frontier League player to make it to the Major Leagues. He spent time with the Crushers, Beach Bums, and Wild Things. Smith got called up to pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, September 27th 2016 after pitching out of the Blue Jay’s Triple-A Organization in Buffalo. Smith spent the majority of his 2016 season at Double-A- before earning his promotion to Triple-A in late August. The 28-year-old Smith had a total of 47 relief appearances, where he posted up a 1.93 ERA. In those appearance Smith had 81 strikeouts while only allowing 22 walks in 60.2 innings this year. After going undrafted by the major leagues, Smith started his professional career in the Frontier League. He got picked by the Lake Erie Crushers in the 2010 draft. During the 2010 season with the Crushers, Smith had a record of 0-1 where he only pitched in one inning and gave up 3 hits, 4 runs, 1 home run, and 1 walk.
