CASTLE ALUM PORTER AMONG NEW EVANSVILLE SIGNEES

The Evansville Otters have signed four right-handed pitchers and among the newest signees is Castle graduate Conner Porter. Porter pitched for the 2011 Newburgh American Legion state championship team and he finished his collegiate career at the University of Memphis (2013-14) after playing for two seasons at Olney Central College. “Conner threw for us a couple years ago and I liked what I saw,” Otters pitching coach Max Peterson said. “It was the middle of the season and we didn’t have any room.” He briefly pitched for the Normal CornBelters in 2014 and he played in the Washington Nationals’ organization before being released. “Good fastball, pretty decent cutter,” Peterson said. “He has great downfield action, he hides the ball pretty well.” In other transaction news, Rob Tasin was signed after being acquired in a trade with the American Association’s Winnipeg Goldeyes for a player to be named later. Tasin played college baseball at the University of Oklahoma before being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 19th round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft. Evansville also signed Hasten Freeman and Austin Sweet. Freeman played for the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and made 12 appearances in 2016 with a 4-4 record…
