Bragg Walks Off Gateway, Southern IL Wins Third Straight

Marion, IL (June 29, 2018) – The Southern Illinois Miners won their third game in a row on Friday night at Rent One Park, beating the Gateway Grizzlies 6-5 on Harrison Bragg’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Both teams opened the scoring right away. After Shane Mardirosian’s leadoff solo homer off Miners starter Steven Ridings in the top of the first inning, the Miners roared back in the bottom of the frame. With two men on against Gateway starter Will Anderson, Chance Shepard unleashed a deep three-run homer over the left-center field wall to vault the Miners in front 3-1. Later in the frame, with two outs, Bragg delivered an RBI single to make the score 4-1. Gateway got a run back in the top of the second inning, but Ridings would limit the damage and settle down from there, eventually pitching five and two-thirds innings in his home debut for the Miners and surrendering only two earned runs. Joe Duncan assisted by extending the Miners’ lead to 5-2 with his first professional homer, a solo shot in the fourth inning.
