AVON, OHIO —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, split a doubleheader with the Lake Erie Crushers, suffering an 8-0 shutout loss in the opener before bouncing back in the second contest with an extra-inning shutout. LAKE ERIE 8, BOOMERS 0 – GAME ONE Lake Erie used a quick strike offense in the opener. The Crushers grabbed the lead on back-to-back one-out swings in the bottom of the first. Aaron Hill singled and Emmanuel Marrero lined the next pitch over the wall in right. Sebastian Diaz connected on a solo homer on the first pitch of the third. The game really broke open behind four runs in the fourth. Schaumburg didn’t mount much offense against Lake Erie starter Alex Romero, who twirled five blank frames.
