Introductions will not be necessary when Boomers manager Jamie Bennett welcomes his latest acquisition to Schaumburg for spring training in April. Brett Mabry, 26, an anchor for the Boomers starting rotation in 2016 has signed a contract to return to Schaumburg for the 2017 season. Originally acquired by the Boomers from fellow Frontier League Gateway Grizzlies before the 2015 season, Mabry’s continued success has been an asset for Bennett and the Boomers. The righty from Shelby, North Carolina, went 2-5 with a 6.30 ERA over 10 starts in 2016, striking out 39 and posting one of three shutouts for the franchise during the season against the Evansville Otters. Following the trade of Seth Webster earlier in 2017, Mabry now leads the team in career innings pitched with 167 and career starts (28). The East Carolina University product went 8-3 with a 3.07 ERA over 18 starts in 2015, striking out 82 and allowing only one home run in 111 innings pitched.
