Boomers Rally To Best Windy City In Series Opener

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the opener of a three-game series with fellow early East Division front-runner the Windy City ThunderBolts. Windy City scored single runs in the second and third against starter Kagen Hopkins to take a 2-0 lead. Schaumburg pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the third against the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, Kyle Von Ruden. Newcomer Alex Fink, obtained before the game in a trade with Lake Erie, singled in his first professional at bat and scored two batters later on a single from Kyle Ruchim. Seth Spivey doubled with one away in the fourth and came home on a Sean Godfrey single to tie the score. Kenny Towns sent his second homer of the season over the wall in left to account for the final in the sixth. Hopkins threw five innings in a no-decision. Austin Kerr improved to 3-1 by working 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. The three wins are tied for the most on the team. Alec Kenilvort struck out two in a perfect ninth to tally his second save of the year. Spivey and Jack Parenty…
