SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, won a third consecutive series by dispatching the Washington Wild Things 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in a pitcher’s duel. The teams traded zeroes throughout the contest as Schaumburg’s Gunnar Kines and Washington’s Michael Austin denied consistent chances. The Boomers broke through against Austin in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. Matt Rose and Connor Oliver logged singles to start the inning and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Jimmy Galusky. Nick Oddo opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to short center and Brock Carpenter accounted for the winning run with a double to deep left. Washington notched three straight hits to open the seventh to score a run, but Dylan Stutsman came on in relief and retired all six batters faced, leaving the tying and go ahead run in scoring position in the seventh. Connor Eller closed out his 11th save by leaving the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.…
