SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened a six-game roadtrip with a 3-2 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday night. Schaumburg took a 1-0 lead in the first, stringing together three consecutive two-out singles. Opie Brodbeck put Schaumburg ahead with the third straight knock. Southern Illinois plated two runs in the third against starter Conrad Wozniak to take the only advantage of the night. The Boomers tied the game on a Kyle Ruchim sacrifice fly in the fifth and scored the deciding run on a solo homer from Zack Weigel leading off the sixth. Weigel owns six homers this year. Southern Illinois placed the tying run at second in the eighth and ninth but came up empty against the bullpen. Wozniak worked 5.2 innings to earn his second consecutive win. The Texan allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five.Jake Joyce earned his ninth save of the season by spinning the ninth. Weigel tallied a pair of hits along with Sean Godfrey as the Boomers collected nine.
