SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, kicked off the holiday weekend with a win Friday night in a 4-1 victory over the Normal CornBelters. The Boomers struck first in the third inning on an RBI double by Jordan Dean. Schaumburg scored two more runs in the inning when a pick-off throw from the Normal catcher bounced off Kenny Towns’ helmet and landed out of play. Paul Kronenfeld homered for the second consecutive game to give the Boomers a 4-0 lead in the sixth. Normal scored one run and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but could not complete the comeback. Gunnar Kines threw seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, retiring 13 batters in a row at one point. This win snaps a four game skid for Schaumburg. They’ll look to make it two wins in a row with last week’s Frontier League Pitcher of the week Kagen Hopkins (3-1, 2.28) on the mound.
