BOOMERS ANNOUNCE THREE RETURNEES FOR 2017 ROSTER

The 2016 Frontier League Organization of the Year Schaumburg Boomers and Manager Jamie Bennett announced the signings of RHP Kagen Hopkins, OF Zack Weigel, and INF Michael McClellan for the 2017 season. Hopkins, 24, returns to the Boomers after joining the team in August of 2015 following a trade from fellow Salvi Sports owned Gary SouthShore Railcats of the American Association. In 2016, Hopkins began the season in the bullpen before moving into the starting rotation where he became one of the most dominant pitchers in the league. Hopkins appeared in twenty games for the Boomers during 2016 and earned a 5-6 record and a 3.84 ERA. The California native holds the franchise record for most consecutive scoreless innings at 20.2 set during the 2016 season along with being named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week in June 2016 and one of the three participants for the Boomers in the 2016 Frontier League All-Star Game. Weigel, 22, signed with the Boomers out of Seton Hall University during the 2016 season. The 6-foot-0 infielder earned a .297/.419/.396 during his 31 appearances for the Boomers in 2016.
