TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(8-7) used the long ball effectively in defeating the Southern Illinois Miners(5-10) tonight by a final score of 6-1. Southern Illinois took an early lead in the first inning after London Lindley blooped a double down the right field line, stole second, and scored on a Nolan Earley RBI groundout. The Bums only took until the second inning to come back and take the lead for good. Will Kengor, who has reached base in all 15 Bums games, walked to start the frame. Alexis Rivera moved him to second on a single to right. Two batters later, catcher Nick Murphy, hit a fly ball, deep down the right field line that carried over the wall for a three-run homer, his first of the season. That gave the Beach Bums a 3-1 advantage. In the third, Jeff DeBlieux reached on a throwing error by the pitcher then Arby Fields walked. After Steven Patterson bunted the runners to second and third, Kengor grounded to short to drive in DeBlieux. With two outs in the fourth, Giancarlo Brugnoni a tape-measure shot over the right-center field for his fourth long ball of the season. DeBlieux led off…
