Beach Bums Take Series Finale at Washington

WASHINGTON, PA – The Traverse City Beach Bums(10-11) broke a 1-1 deadlock in the eighth inning to beat the Washington Wild Things(12-9), 3-1. The Beach Bums took an early 1-0 lead, in the first inning when, with two outs, Steven Patterson hit a solo smash over the right field wall, and into the parking lot, for his seventh homer of the season. Washington responded in the fifth when Kyle Pollock led off with a solo home run of his own. In the pivotal, eighth inning, both Lucas Hunter and Arby Fields drew walks with two outs. Ryan Garvey stepped to the plate and slashed an RBI single to right, driving in Hunter, giving the Beach Bums the lead. In the ninth, Alexis Rivera lifted a double down the left field line. Two batters later, Elijah Trail hit a double into right, scoring Rivera, giving Traverse City an important insurance run. Both starting pitchers went deep into the game in what turned out to be a classic pitcher’s duel. John Havird allowed just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out five in eight full innings of work. With tonight’s win, he improves to 3-0. Washington’s Trevor Foss falls…
