BEACH BUMS TAKE MARATHON AT GATEWAY

SAUGET, IL – The Traverse City Beach Bums(29-38) and the Gateway Grizzlies(35-35), were tied at three after three, and stayed that way until the 12th, as the Bums won 7-4, taking the middle game of a two game series. In the top of the second inning, and with two outs, Giancarlo Burgnoni walked, Gaby Juarbe doubled, and Jeff DeBlieux walked to load the bases. Marcos Derkes then hit a tough grounder to second for a base hit, scoring Brugnoni. Then, an error also scored Juarbe. Ryan Bottger followed with an RBI single, scoring DeBlieux, giving the Beach Bums a 3-0 lead. Ben Waldip led off the bottom of the inning for Gateway with an infield single then, Sam Fischer hit a two-run homer, his eighth of the season, over the short wall in right, just out of the reach of DeBlieux, to bring them within one. With two outs in the third, Brandon Thomas rocked a solo shot to left for his ninth of the season, tying the game at three. From there, the pitching took over the game.
