Beach Bums Pick Up First Win of the Season

JOLIET, lll. – The scoring came early and often this morning as the Traverse City Beach Bums(1-4) were able to hold on for their first victory of the season against the Joliet Slammers(2-3), by a final score of 13-12. Jeff DeBlieux got the action rolling with a double to lead off the game, then after a Steven Patterson walk, Will Kengor drove in DeBlieux with a double. Patterson would then come in to score on a wild pitch, making it 2-0. Joliet cut the lead in half in the second inning when Alex Rodriguez scored on a throwing error. The teams traded runs in the third when the Bums’ Alexis Rivera drove in Ryan Garvey with an RBI single and Juan Silva hit a solo home run for Joliet. In the top of the fourth, Traverse City doubled their advantage when Giancarlo Brugnoni hit a solo homer over the centerfield wall, his third of the season. In the bottom of the inning, Joliet had their biggest inning of the game, bringing eight men to the plate. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam rocked a two-run shot to right then Dane McFarland and Juan Silva added RBI singles, giving the Slammers a 6-4 lead. They made…
