Beach Bums Hang On For Win Against Schaumburg

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(23-29) took a two run lead into the ninth and squeaked out a victory over the Schaumburg Boomers(35-17), by a final score of 7-6. Jeff DeBlieux led off the first with a double to right field. After moving to third on a fly ball, Will Kengor grounded to the right side of the infield to drive him home and give the Beach Bums an early 1-0 lead. They added more offense in the third, when Kengor led off with a double. Alexis Rivera and Nick Murphy, each reached base on infield hits with Kengor scoring to double the lead. With two away, Zach Files hit a two run single to make it 4-0. In the top of the fourth, two RBI ground outs, by Seth Spivey and David Harris, cut the Boomer deficit in half. After a scoreless fifth, Schaumburg grabbed the lead in the sixth. Spivey hit an RBI double and Ryan O’Malley grounded in a run, but during that grounder, the throw to first got away, and Harris scored on the error to bring the score to 5-4.
