BEACH BUMS END SKID WITH SHUTOUT

AVON, OH – The Traverse City Beach Bums(10-22) ended a six game losing streak with a complete pitching performance and timely hitting, as they beat the Lake Erie Crushers(16-15), 4-0. Starting pitchers, Dylan Stoops for the Beach Bums and Todd Kibby for Lake Erie, combined to strike out 14 batters in today’s contest as the game was scoreless heading into the fifth inning. Steven Patterson led off by blasting a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall, his fourth home run of the season, and the Bums led 1-0. In the seventh, First baseman Brandon Thomasson led off with a double over the centerfielder’s head. Patterson moved him over to third with a groundout, then Brian Portelli drove him in with a grounder of his own to double the Bums’ lead. Looking for insurance runs, Jose Vargas led off the ninth by walking. Two batters later, Patterson hit an RBI double down to left field line to score Vargas. Portelli then followed up when he dropped an RBI single into left, scoring Patterson, and the Beach Bums had a 4-0 lead, that they would not relinquish. Dylan Stoops picked up the win for the Beach Bums, going five and 1/3…
