Baez Signs Extension With Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Otters have signed right-handed pitcher Felix Baez to a contract extension. A San Juan, P.R. native, Baez appeared in 10 games and made five starts for Evansville last season. He finished 1-0 with a 3.94 ERA in 32 innings on the mound and struck out 38 batters. Baez played for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and later played for the Indios de Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League. “Looking forward to having Felix back,” Otters manager Andy McCauley said. “He threw very well in the prestigious Puerto Rican winter league.” The Otters also signed first baseman/outfielder Joe DeRoche-Duffin. DeRoche-Duffin was acquired by Evansville earlier this month from the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association for a player to be named later. Evansville will open the regular season in Marion, Ill. May 12 against the Southern Illinois Miners at 7:05 p.m. and will celebrate Bosse Field’s Opening Night May 19 against the Gateway Grizzlies at 6:35 p.m. The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
