After six seasons of professional baseball spent in the organizations of Atlanta and San Francisco, Rich Sauget went on to watch his son have a successful playing career of his own. His son, Rich Sauget, Jr., spent two seasons in the Frontier League—1997 with Johnstown, and 1998 with Springfield. One night at his son’s Frontier League game, Rich Sr. had a conversation with Commissioner Bill Lee about getting involved in the league. A few short years later, Rich joined the league in 1999 and is still owner of the Gateway Grizzlies today. From 2003 to 2020, Rich, Sr. served as the President of the League Board of Directors. During his tenure, he worked with fellow owners to further the brand and image of the League. The League experienced tremendous growth as a result.
