WINNIPEG, MB – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (31-12) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-3 Thursday evening in front of 5,411 spectators at Shaw Park.
The Goldeyes (23-19) opened the scoring in the second inning when David Washington lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Max Murphy.
Fargo-Moorhead tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning as Ben Livorsi came home on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Evan Alexander.
Ian Sagdal came in on Murphy’s second triple of the game in the bottom of the fourth to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead.
The RedHawks went in front in the top of the eighth inning. First Sam Dexter tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Alexander, then Christian Correa singled to centre field to drive in Leobaldo Pina, making the score 3-2 Fargo-Moorhead.
Pina scored Alexander with an infield single in the top of the ninth inning to give the RedHawks a 4-2 advantage.
Washington led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run into the left field corner that pulled the Goldeyes within one and the Goldeyes had the tying and winning runs on base with one out but RedHawks’ closer Alex DuBord escaped with his league-leading 12th save of the season.
Luke Lind (4-1) picked up the win in relief for Fargo-Moorhead, pitching a scoreless seventh.
Bryan Blanton was charged with the loss. He allowed two unearned runs in one-third of an inning.
Winnipeg starter Luis Ramirez went six innings and gave up one run on four hits while striking out six.
The Goldeyes begin a seven-game road trip against the Explorers in Sioux City, Iowa Friday at 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on CJNU 93.7 FM and worldwide at cjnu.ca.
Sioux City will also be the opponent when Winnipeg returns to Shaw Park Friday, July 8.
