CLEBURNE, Texas – Ryan Long had two extra-base hits, but the ‘Dogs were swept in a 25-3 loss to the Cleburne Railroaders at The Depot on Sunday night.
Long had a double and a triple, but Lincoln (26-29) lost all four games in the series to open the second half of the regular season. The ‘Dogs (26-29) gave up a franchise-record 25 runs, and Cleburne fell one run short of tying the league record for runs scored in a single game.
Cleburne (23-33) led 8-0 after three innings, scoring four times in the 1st, once in the 2nd and three times in the 3rd.
Long’s triple led off the 4th inning, and he eventually scored on an RBI groundout from Welington Dotel. The ‘Dogs scored two more on RBI singles from Josh Altmann and Dotel in the 4th.
Cleburne scored two in the 5th, four in the 6th and 11 in the 8th and handed the ‘Dogs their most lopsided loss in franchise history.
Elijah Johnson allowed five runs over 1 and 2/3 innings. Josh Norwood allowed five over 3 and 1/3 innings. Jesse Stallings allowed four runs in the 6th, while Carson Lance pitched a scoreless 7th. Position players J.R. DiSarcina and Alex Steinbach combined to allow 11 in the 8th.
The ‘Dogs now return home to open a five-game series over four nights against the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch Monday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
