LINCOLN, Nebraska – Matt Goodheart worked a go-ahead, bases-loaded walk in a three-run 8th inning, and the ‘Dogs rallied to beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-3 at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Goodheart’s walk came on a 3-2 pitch from LHP Travis Seabrooke, and capped a rally that began with an RBI single from Ryan Long before Eddy Martinez tied the game on a sacrifice fly.
The Saltdogs (9-3) tied their best 12-game start in franchise history and won a fifth consecutive series opener with their fifth come-from-behind win and fourth win in one-run games.
The Goldeyes (6-8) took a 2-0 lead on a two-run single from Max Murphy that capped a two-out rally in the 1st inning. Welington Dotel’s solo homer – his second home run in as many days – cut the deficit to one run in the 4th, but the Goldeyes restored the two-run lead on Ian Sagdal’s sacrifice fly in the 7th.
Garett Delano posted Lincoln’s longest start of the year, tossing six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. David Zoz allowed a run in the 7th before Carson Lance struck out the side in order in the eighth.
Brandon Cunniff worked around a leadoff single with a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to pick up his fourth save in as many tries.
Hunter Clanin was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 11, while J.R. DiSarcina’s leadoff single to start the 8th-inning rally extended his hit streak to three.
The ‘Dogs have won four straight at home, and have a chance to make it five straight on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin 30 minutes prior on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
