Dogs Hold off Lake Country Comeback

ROSEMONT, ILL. – The Chicago Dogs defeated the Lake Country DockHounds 5-3 Saturday night at Impact Field. The win brings them to 28-29 this season and back into third place in the American Association’s Eastern Division standings.

The Dogs’ offense used a three-run third inning to capture the victory.

All-Star second baseman Matt Bottcher opened the third-inning scoring with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 ballgame. Later in the inning, Nick Heath scorched a two-out double to right-center field to open up the game. Both Jesus Lujano and Ryan Lidge scored on the play.

Lake Country’s shaky defense and pitching assisted the Dogs’ scoring. Chicago only accumulated two hits in the three-run inning.

Dogs starting pitcher Johnathon Tripp dominated in his first start of the season. He tossed 4.1 innings, surrendered only two hits and struck out three DockHounds. Efficiency was the key to Tripp’s longest appearance of the season. Tripp only needed 52 pitches to record 13 outs for the Dogs.

Tripp’s performance on Saturday was only the 10th start of his career with Chicago. His most recent previous start came on Sept. 2, 2022, against the Kane County Cougars.

Bryan Warzek was the first pitcher out of the Chicago bullpen, and he continued Tripp’s dominance. Warzek pitched 1.2 innings, which included four strikeouts.

The Dogs’ bullpen threw the final 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits, three earned runs and seven strikeouts.

Lake Country’s three runs came in the final two frames, with Joe Cavallaro and Brian Schlitter pitching. The Dogs’ defense got into jams in both innings but still prevailed in the end.

Dylan Rosa smashed a solo home run for the second consecutive game for Chicago. The blast to left-center field is his second as a Dog and ninth in his American Association career.

Lake Country starting pitcher Randall Delgado threw five innings, allowed six hits and all five Chicago runs. The Dogs got to Delgado early and often, as he produced his shortest outing since June 17.

The Dogs look to win their first series since July 5. The first pitch is at 3 p.m., with catch on the field and player autographs happening pregame.
