ROSEMONT, ILL. – The Milwaukee Milkmen defeated the Chicago Dogs 8-4 on Sunday afternoon at Impact Field. It marks the Dogs’ first three-game losing streak of the season and first time being swept. The Dogs now sit 14-7.
Milwaukee’s Cam Balego continued his dominance against Dogs pitchers. He scorched two doubles, after hitting a home run in each of the first two games.
Both Drew Ward and Cam Redding added two hits and two RBI Sunday.
Chicago starter Jake Dahlberg struggled in his fifth start of the season. Dahlberg surrendered seven hits and six earned runs in only 3.2 innings of work – his shortest outing this season. He also pitched four walks – the most in a start this season.
Milwaukee starting pitcher Jose Fuentes threw five innings and allowed three earned runs. While Fuentes didn’t tally a strikeout during the outing, Milwaukee’s defense was efficient at getting the Dogs out.
The Dogs bullpen only conceded one run in 5.1 innings, despite five walks.
Jonathon Tripp was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for the Dogs, and he was dominant. Tripp punched out two Milkmen in 1.1 innings. He was one of two Dogs relievers to not allow a hit or walk on Sunday.
Both Ryan Lidge and Luke Mangieri smashed home runs in the loss. The pair accounted for all four runners batted in. Mangieri hit a game-tying two-run blast in the bottom of the second. Lidge hit a solo home run in the fourth and grounded into a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning, which scored Taylor Jackson.
Jackson provided offense in the bottom of the order. He hit a single into right field in the third and a double in the eighth.
The Dogs will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday night, when they face the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park. The Dogs went 3-0 in their recent series against Winnipeg late May, outscoring the Goldeyes 26-14. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
