The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Chicago Dogs 15-9 at Impact Field on Saturday night. The loss ends the Dogs’ four-game winning streak.
The story of the night was two-way player Chad Pike. The right-handed relief pitcher was the first Dog out of the bullpen to relieve starting pitcher Jake Carroll. He tossed a crucial 4.1 innings of relief and only allowed three hits and one earned run. His breaking ball was on point and contributed to striking out a career-high seven RedHawks.
Dogs third baseman Dusty Stroup shined in the loss. He hit another home run — his 17th of the season — and became the only player in franchise history to hit a home run in four consecutive games. He has hit seven home runs in his last 10 games and is one of the best American Association hitters in August.
Additionally, right fielder Narciso Crook dominated at the plate on Saturday. Crook finished 2-3 with three RBI and his 23rd home run — tied with first baseman Jacob Teter for the second-most long balls in the league this season.
Just like Stroup, Crook has towered seven home runs in his last 10 games.
Infielder Derek Maiben continues to hit for Chicago. He has an eight-game hitting streak since joining the Dogs, as he picked up another three hits on Saturday. He has a .417 batting average with Chicago.
The top four hitters — Teter, second baseman Brantley Bell, Crook and Stroup — scored all nine runs in the performance.
The Dogs look to pick up the series win against Fargo-Moorhead on Sunday afternoon. First pitch will take place at 3 p.m. at Impact Field.
