Narciso Crook hit a pair of solo homeruns, Jacob Teter had four hits, and the Dogs withstood a late inning rally from the Cleburne Railroaders and hung on for a 5-4 win tonight in Cleburne, TX.
The game was scoreless through five innings, but in the top of the sixth, Crook would hit his 18th homerun of the year off former Chicago Dog, Johnathon Tripp, making it 1-0 Chicago. The Dogs would add two runs on a two-base error by Cleburne centerfielder Blaze Brothers and would finish the four-run rally with a Teter RBI single.
Crook would get Tripp again in the seventh inning, hitting homerun number 19 of the season, extending Chicago’s lead to 5-0. In the eighth however, the Railroaders would string together four singles off Brian Schlitter and three bases loaded walks off Joey Marciano, scoring four times and making it 5-4. Marciano would shut the door there however, recording four outs and earning his 20th save of the season, extending his own team’s single season record for saves in a season.
Zach Davidson, making just his second professional start would shut out the top offense in the American Association on just two singles. He walked three and struck out six over five innings of work. Tripp would allow five runs, two earned and thirteen hits over seven innings, suffering his first loss of the season.
The sixth and final game of the series is set for tomorrow night, 6:07 first pitch. It is a rematch of Game one as the Dogs will send Jake Carroll (2-2 4.84) to the hill facing former major leaguer Caleb Smith (0-0 5.40). All Chicago Dogs games are streamed live and free on aabaseball.tv.
