The Boulders managed to pull even with the Capitales for the league-best record on Friday thanks to a combined three-hit shutout spun by the Boulders pitching staff. The Boulders took the slight advantage in the first inning when August player of the month 1B Joe Maloney blasted an RBI single. It was the lone run of the game for either team and Maloney’s 96th RBI of the season. RHP Justin Topa (pictured) spun a gem to pick up the victory, as he allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings. Topa (14-3) walked one batter and struck out four in the winning effort. Elsewhere, the Aigles topped the Miners in Game 1 of their doubleheader 6-4. The Miners got revenge in Game 2, exploding for eight runs in a 8-1 victory and the Jackals beat the Capitales 4-3.
