Independent Baseball Chatter – by Bob Wirz Former Can-Am pitchers Robert Stock (pictured) and Andres Santiago have yet to experience the thrill of a major league call-up although they are continuing to make a mark for themselves in the upper echelon of organizations. Stock, who started drawing considerable attention as a non-roster invitee to San Diego’s spring training camp, has put together sub-3.00 earned run averages with the Padres’ top two minor league clubs already this season. He has held Pacific Coast League hitters to a paltry .146 average in 10 outings since being promoted from San Antonio to El Paso, and struck out five in one two-inning stint which earned his first save. Sixteen strikeouts while only allowing 11 runners on hits (six) or walks in 12.2 innings are guarantees to get attention. The 28-year-old’s 2016 season at New Jersey (1-2, five saves, 2.85 ERA and more than a strikeout per inning) started his career outlook looking better than four years in the St. Louis system.
