Neither team scored until the fifth inning of Saturday night’s contest as the Miners edged the Champions 2-1. A two-run fifth inning propelled the Sussex County ball club. RF Rubi Silva (pictured) knocked in the first run of the game for the Miners on a single. Silva then advanced to second on a pickoff and stole third base before scoring on an error to make it a two-run game. The scored remained 2-0 until the bottom of the ninth when the Champions cut the deficit in half thanks to a solo home run from CF Tyson Gillies. However, RHP Hector Nelo proved to be the hero as he came into the ball game to pick up the final out for the Miners, earning his first save of the season in the process. Elsewhere, the Capitales topped the Boulders 7-1 and the Aigles beat the Jackals 6-1.
