Thornhill, Ontario — PointStreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, has named Sussex County Miners OF Rubi Silva as Player of the Week for the week of June 18-24. In six games, Silva went 11-for-21 (.524) with two home runs and eight RBIs as the first-place Miners went 4-2 on the week. On Tuesday, the native of Artemisa, Cuba, went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and five RBI in Sussex County’s 14-1 win over Salina. He had another three-hit outing in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday, driving in a run in his team’s 7-2 victory against Ottawa. Silva has been outstanding since joining the Miners June 12, hitting .510 with four home runs, 18 RBIs and 13 runs scored. The 29-year-old also spent all of 2017 with the club, where he was the team’s most consistent offensive performer. He led the squad with 119 hits, 57 RBI and 53 runs scored while also tying for the league lead as well as the Sussex County Can-Am League record with 7 triples.
