Photo: Sussex County Miners Durham, N.C. — Hitting .345 (30-for-87) with seven doubles, fifteen stolen bases and 24 RBI in 24 games, Sussex County Miners OF Jayce Ray is July’s Rawlings Batter of the Month. Also adding three home runs, Ray helped to lead the first-place Miners to a 20-6 month, building a 10-game lead over second-place Quebec. The Sonoma, Calif., native picked up at least one hit in 20 of the 24 July games he played in, including three three-hit games, as well as at least one stolen base in 11 different games. Currently, Ray, 28, leads the league with six triples and is third with 48 RBI and 27 stolen bases, to go along with a .303 batting average and 16 doubles on the season. 2018 is Ray’s first season in the Can-Am League after spending the 2017 campaign with the Sioux City of the American Association. In 2016, he played in the Boston Red Sox organization, hitting a combined .340 at the Single-A and Double-A levels. Prior to that, he spent three additional seasons in independent baseball in the American Association, the Frontier League and the Pacific Association.
