RANGERS ADD CONTRACT OF ROCKLAND RIGHTY TOPA

Durham, N.C. — The contract of Rockland Boulders RHP Justin Topa has been purchased by the Texas Rangers orgnaization, the Can-Am League announced on Saturday. In four appearances for Rockland in 2018, Topa was 1-1 with a 4.42 ERA, fanning 15 hitters in 20 innings of work. The Binghamton, N.Y., native was outstanding for the Boulders in 2017, leading the league and setting a Rockland franchise record with 14 victories while finishing sixth in the Can-Am with a 3.50 ERA. Topa walked just 26 hitters in 110.2 innings of work. Prior to Rockland, the 27-year-old spent three seasons in the Pittsburgh organization after being chosen by the Pirates in the 17th round of the 2013 draft out of Long Island University-Brooklyn.
