PLAYER OF THE MONTH MANDULEY LEADS RESURGENT CAPS

Durham, N.C. — Just two days after being named the league’s all-star shortstop for the second consecutive season, Yordan Manduley of the Québec Capitales was named August’s Rawlings Player of the Month on Saturday. After missing most of July while representing Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Games, Manduley returned August 2 and helped to lead the Capitales to the best August record of any Can-Am League club at 19-11. It was a stark turnaround from a difficult July in which Quebec went 13-16. The Holguin, Cuba, native hit .377 with 19 RBI in 29 games in August, adding six doubles and 17 runs scored while striking out just once in 137 plate appearances. Manduley had two four-hit games, August 18 at New Jersey and August 28 at Ottawa, had at least one hit in 24 of his 29 games, and is currently riding a 12-game hit streak. He also continued his strong defensive play, making only two errors all month. Currently, Manduley is second in the league with a .334 average over 74 games. His 17 stolen bases lead the team.
