NEW JERSEY CUTS MINERS' NINTH-INNING PUSH SHORT

The New Jersey Jackals stranded the would-be winning run from the Sussex County Miners in the top of the ninth inning to seal a 7-5 victory. The Miners loaded up the bases in the top of the ninth but Reliever Johnny Hellweg (pictured) recorded back-to-back strikeouts to close out the win. The Jackals took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after DH Brian Joynt pushed OF Johnny Bladel, who went 2-for-3 and scored three times, and 1B Conrad Gregor, who had three RBIs, across with a single. New Jersey added an insurance run in the eighth with a solo home run from C Adam Martin.Elsewhere, Quebec edged Trois-Rivieres 10-8, Ottawa topped the Dominican Republic 8-3 and Cuba beat Rockland 4-3.
