While the Can-Am League season will end in a few days when either Rockland or Ottawa has claimed the postseason championship, fall actually means the start of an effort by those who excelled during the summer to find an opportunity with a major league organization.One of those who seems most likely to get such a chance is big (6-foot-6, perhaps 260-pounds) Art Charles, the New Jersey Jackals’ first baseman who won the league’s Triple Crown with 29 homers, 101 runs batted in (for the 100-game season) and a .352 average.
