MINERS’ ROLLINS NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Photo Credit: New Jersey Herald DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Sussex County Miners LHP David Rollins (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 27. Rollins twirled a gem on Wednesday in a 2-1 Miners win at home over the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Over seven shutout innings, the southpaw scattered three hits and three walks, and struck out ten Aigles hitters. Though Rollins took a no-decision, Sussex County celebrated a victory when 1B Martin Figueroa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth, resulting in a walk-off. Through two starts in 2018, Rollins owns a 1-0 record and 0.69 ERA. He has struck out 18 and walked only six in his 13 innings on the bump. The Deberry, Tex. native is in his first season in the Can-Am League after a seven-season career in the affiliated ranks. A 24th-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011, Rollins was traded to the Houston Astros in a deal that featured Major Leaguers J.A. Happ, Brandon Lyon, and David Carpenter going to Toronto in July 2012. Following the 2014…
