JULY 29 EVENING LEAGUE RECAP Sussex County 5, Quebec 3 – Box Score Sussex County finished off the four-game sweep of Quebec as they defeated the Capitales by the score of 5-3. The Miners are now 27 games over .500 at 47-20 and have opened up a 10.5 game lead over Quebec in the standings. The Miners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by 2B Daniel Mateo and CF Jayce Ray. The Capitales came back with a run in the second on a C Maxx Tissenbaum solo home run. Sussex County then put the game away in the fifth as they scored three times, highlighted by a two-run blast from Mateo. Quebec would plate single runs in the seventh and eighth but that would be it. Mateo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs while LF Connor Crane (pictured) added a pair of hits in three at-bats and scored a run. Miners starting pitcher Cory Jones tossed seven innings and picked-up his seventh win of the year. Jones gave up two earned runs on nine hits and struck our four batters.
