KUROKOWA EARNS MONTHLY HONORS AFTER SUPERB JUNE

Photo: Marc Lafleur / Ottawa Champions Thornhill, Ontario – After an outstanding stretch featuring two complete-game shutouts, Ottawa Champions RHP Jordan Kurokawa was named June’s Pitcher of the Month in the Can-Am League. In six starts during the month, the Honolulu native went 4-1 with a 0.66 ERA, allowing just three earned runs in 41.0 innings of work. Kurokawa struck out 32 hitters while walking just seven, and limited opposing hitters to a .199 batting average. After tossing five shutout innings against Sussex County on June 2, he followed the effort up with a complete-game three-hitter against Salina June 9, earning his first victory of the season and Pitcher of the Week honors. Kurokawa was the hard-luck loser in the nightcap of a June 14 doubleheader as the Champions fell to Quebec, 1-0, but came back with seven shutout frames against Hollywood on June 20. After earning another win over Trois-Rivieres five days later, he finished the month with a brilliant four-hit complete game as Ottawa sailed to a 10-0 win over New Jersey on June 30.
