Photo Credit: Quebec Capitales DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Quebec Capitales LHP Jay Johnson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 12. Johnson was dominant in his lone start this week for Quebec. Facing the Rockland Boulders on Tuesday, the Sussex Corner, N.B. native logged seven shutout innings. Johnson allowed just two hits and two walks over his seven frames, striking out five Boulders hitters. Quebec cruised to an 8-0 win. On the season, Johnson is now 5-1 with a miniscule 1.50 ERA. In 23 appearances (eight starts), he has struck out 60 and walked only 22 in 66 innings. Johnson’s ERA is the best mark among qualifiers in the Can-Am League by an 0.57 margin over second place Jordan Kurokawa of Ottawa. Johnson is in the midst of his third season with Quebec, having previously made 25 relief appearances with the club in 2014 and recording eight saves, and returning to the Quebec bullpen in 2015 for 33 appearances.
